Start your YouTube channel in 5 easy steps
Starting a YouTube channel can be a fun and exciting experience, but it can also be a little daunting if you don't know where to start.
The good news is that starting a channel is relatively straightforward and can be done in just five simple steps.
In this post, we'll go over each step in detail so that you can get started on your own channel as soon as possible.
1: CHOOSE YOUR NICHE
Before you start creating content, you need to decide what your channel will be about.
You might think this is super obvious - after all, you’re a business owner who probably already has some sort of niche for your business, right?
When it comes to creating your YouTube channel and creating content for that channel, you have a couple of options in terms of your niche.
Firstly, you can create content around everything you do in your business. For example, if you’re a VA you could create tech tutorials for the different software you use, time-saving hack videos, educational videos and much, much more!
Another option is to focus on one specific area of your business niche. An example of this might be if you’re a life coach and you started a YouTube channel just around EFT Tapping, even though you offer much more in your business.
There are pros and cons for both approaches but the most important thing to consider is whether or not you can create consistent video content.
2: SET UP YOUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL
We’re diving right into it!
Once you've chosen your niche, it's time to set up your channel.
To start a YouTube channel, you'll need a Google account. It’s then super simple to create your account - go to YouTube.com and click on the "Create a Channel" button.
Start by filling out your basic channel information, including your name and description. This is also a good time to choose a profile picture and header image that represents your brand.
Whilst you can come back and update this information, the sooner you do it, the better. As with most profiles you create, make sure that you make it clear what you do and include keywords that people may be searching for.
3: CREATE YOUR FIRST VIDEO
Take action. Now!
Being on camera can feel super awkward for a lot of people. And I get it, I really do. But we need to do this thing!
So stop procrastinating and go film yourself right now.
Remember that everyone starts somewhere and done is better than perfect (I know, I know, major cliches but it’s true).
You don’t need the latest and greatest equipment to create great video content. Just use what you have and focus on creating high-quality content that your audience will enjoy.
If it helps, create a short script or bullet points to help you remember what you want to cover in the video and don’t worry about making mistakes - you can always edit them afterwards but try to stay in the flow of recording.
4: OPTIMISE YOUR VIDEOS FOR SEO
Yep, SEO is a thing for YouTube content too.
One of the most important things you can do to ensure your videos are seen by as many people as possible is to optimise them for search.
This means that you'll want to include keywords in your video's title, description, and tags that people might search for when looking for content like yours. Remember to not just stuff those keywords everywhere but to use them in a way that feels natural and is easy for your audience to read and understand.
Doing this will help your videos appear higher in search results, making it more likely that people will find and watch them.
5: SHARE AND PROMOTE YOUR VIDEOS
So, you’ve hit publish on your first YouTube video, now what happens?
Well, as you may already know, SEO takes time to build up and work its magic. That means that unless you tell people that your video exists, not many people will actually see it.
Here comes the scary part…
…it’s time to tell people and share your new YouTube channel.
You can do this by sharing your videos on social media, embedding them in your blog, talking about them on your podcast, etc.
The more people you can reach, the more likely you are to get views, subscribers, and followers. The key is to be consistent in your efforts and to engage with your audience as much as possible. Create a content creation schedule and build in promotions around that too.
See, that wasn’t that difficult, was it? You’re now the proud owner of your very own YouTube channel (or you’re about to be if you just read this post from start to finish).
